Founded in 1970 by Hitomi Okawa, Milk has been immortalized as one of the original Harajuku brands, and Okawa is widely known as the godmother of Ura-Hara, a then-newly defined sub-district within Harajuku known for its streetwear swag. The GOATs of Ura-Hara—Hiroshi Fujiwara, Nigo of A Bathing Ape, and Jonio of UNDERCOVER— were all put on by Okawa, she introduced all of them to the magazine editors, she got them DJ Gigs and showed them how things needed to be done in the industry. To this day, all 3 of them credit her for their success.
Designers from Fiorucci, Vivienne Westwood, and Stephen Jones hung out in the MILK shop when they came to town. John Lennon and David Bowie were regular customers. COMME des GARCONS was also first sold on MILK’s stall.
These pants are a true piece of history.
